What is Indices Trading?

Indices trading involves speculating the price movement of a group of stocks represented as a single index. Instead of buying individual shares, you trade the overall performance of a market.

For example, the S&P 500 tracks 500 of the largest companies in the United States. When these companies perform well, the index rises. When they decline, the index falls.

At Rinxo Limited, indices are traded as CFDs, meaning:

You do not own the underlying assets

You trade purely on price movement

You can profit in both bullish and bearish markets

How Does Indices Trading Work?

Indices trading is based on the price movement of a group of stocks combined into a single index. Each company within an index is weighted by its market capitalization, meaning larger companies have a greater influence on the overall price. See more

For Example, In the S&P 500, companies like Apple, Microsoft, and NVIDIA carry significant weight. When these companies report strong earnings or experience price changes, the entire index can move accordingly.

How a Trade Works (Step-By-Step)

1

Choose an index (e.g., S&P 500 or NASDAQ 100)

2

Decide direction, buy (price rising) or sell (price falling)

3

Select your trade size (lot size)

4

Apply leverage if needed

5

Close the trade to realize profit or loss

Your profit or loss depends on the number of points the index moves in your chosen direction, multiplied by your position size.

Real Market Example

Market Example: During the COVID-19 market crash in early 2020, the S&P 500 declined by over 30% within weeks. Traders who anticipated the downturn opened sell positions and profited from falling prices. When the market rebounded shortly after, traders who identified the recovery trend opened buy positions and captured the upward movement.
